Max Middle Sound Project

Biography

The Max Middle Sound Project is an interdisciplinary collaboration committed to the integration of poetry, sound poetry and music incorporating elements of theatre and performance art as ancillary expression. Founded in 2004 and spearheaded by Max Middle, the Max Middle Sound Project has emerged as a dynamic creature on the regional arts scene. Performances incorporate contemporary sound poetry, chanting, tongue twisters, vocal improvisation, found texts, sound collage and music and do so with energy both intellectual and effervescent. The ensemble has performed in the Ottawa Fringe Festival, the Ottawa International Writers Festival and in the following reading series: Dusty Owl, Tree and Grey Borders, as well as in a special event in Buffalo, New York.

The ensemble consists of John Lavery and Max Middle. Lavery is an accomplished writer, literary reader and musician. Middle is a poet working in verse, visual and sound poetry.
